Reminding myself that I spent 4 years in film school, oh yeah
Here are some snippets of artsy projects created to explore themes of fragmented memory, collective trauma and aspects of performativity.
Via VHS
An experimental film focused on the processing of loss and grief as we grasp at the fragmented shattered experience of our own memories. Following the main protagonist as she unravels her memories of a childhood with an absent parent that are always entangling into themselves, moving further and further from reality.
We Remember
I have some kind of fascination with places where people once were but are no longer. Through a documentary style this film explores the impact and wreckage of forced removal, the politics of imagined communities. Looking at three spaces, East Berlin, Sophiatown and Fietas. Painting the image of these sites after the dust has settled into pastel coloured memories.
The Black Death
Exploring the world of performativity, identity and mythology mysticism. The Black Death is a short experimental piece looking into the real subculture of Black and Death Metal in Scandinavia in the early 90s. Using tropes of magical realism to convey the story that creates a snapshot that follows actual events.
Loop
Welcome to the dreamscape. An experimental film using surrealist imagery to create a world within the main character's mind. The images are intercut to explore the mind as it unravels within the dreamscape, a search of sense making in a void of metaphor and expressionism.
Give It A Burn
A short documentary focused on the subculture of “climbers” using the soundscape and imagery to capture the experience of the sport.
Laceworms
A creative and fun project for the 48 Hour Film Festival. The premise of the festival is to create a short film from conception to completion in 48 hours.
